something to look at

Have a look at The Fire Painter, Russell Maier. One foot in the analog art world and one foot in the digital world brings about some surprising results. Right now he has a feature on Perry Rath who recently had a solo show at the Two Rivers Art Gallery. I find Perry's work to be conceptually sound, speaking about topics that are sometimes tough to talk about, like our mortality. Thought provoking work.

The firepainting is pretty neat. I have a question...does he use real fire to burn his paintings and then take pictures or is the fire digitally superimposed? I might have the answer but his links to tell us about firepainting are not working :-)

Yep, he really burns his paintings. The only thing that remains, and is actually the record and the art is the digital pictures he takes of the event.

Interesting. All that work and then he burns it. Metaphorically I guess you could say people work, get paid, and then burn their money...its not art but there is a similarity. :-)
